About Jose Miguel
Jose Miguel Muñoz was born in Guatemala on December 31, 1987. There, he studied Architecture at Rafael Landivar University, and began a career as a professional artist. He uses several different types of paint and painting techniques, including acrylic, marker, airbrush, and spray. Recently, he began to paint and print on fabric, for his clothing lines Pigment-Art and Fashion-in.
“It is always important to be proud of where you come from, to know and transmit your people and culture, and what they have helped you achieve.”
Jose Miguel says that his inspiration comes from contemporary art (what is current), but does not forget what is timeless” in art, fashion, architecture, and the human figure. He appreciates the work of his fellow artists, and has many favorites, from many different countries.
Jose Miguel has been very successful in Guatemala, with several individual and group art exhibitions on his resume, and feels proud to have the opportunity to show his art abroad. He hopes that it brings as much pride to his country as himself. “It is always important to be proud of where you come from, to know and transmit your people and culture, and what they have helped you achieve.”
Jose Miguel dreams of future exhibitions in New York, Paris, Vienna, etc., and of making art that transcends time as well as space. That is to say, he wants to leave a legacy. “I want to effect change in someone’s life today, or at some point down the road. I believe that people need art to negotiate their world, to manifest the changes they wish to see, and so I am committed to making it happen. As an artist, it is my duty.”
