Artist Statement

I grew up living in Caracas where the city spreads out into a valley rounded by magnificent mountains, I spent my weekends between cows, horses, hills, pastures and virgin Caribbean beaches. The beauty of nature became part of my life and has been the essence of my paintings.

My work reflects the vibrant colors, the warm weather, and the tropical nature that I can find in some of the places where I have lived and traveled: South America, Virgin Islands, Islands of the Caribbean, Thailand, European countries, California, Florida and South Africa. The beauty of these places has captivated my spirit.
My creations are made freely using acrylics, applying multiple layers and sometimes choosing different textures, letting my thoughts create abstract images which reflect my personal way of seeing the world and feeling it. I like to start with some free lines and let my creation evolve step by step. I often find myself in a dream about my next painting, making decisions about the composition, palette, textures, mediums, etc. And that is what I love about being an abstract artist: The flexibility that I have to use my imagination to transform the real world into something beautiful and unique.

I admire the art of abstract painters such as Georgia O’Keeffe, Pablo Picasso, Wassily Kandinsky, Robert Delaunay, Maurice Esteve and Franz Kline.
